Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between flat rate and reducing balance?
On a reducing-balance loan, interest is charged only on what you still owe, so it falls every month. On a flat-rate loan, interest is charged on the full original amount for the whole term โ which makes the same headline rate much more expensive.
How much is a KSh 200,000 loan at 15% over 2 years?
On reducing balance: KSh 9,697 a month and KSh 32,736 interest. At a 15% flat rate: KSh 10,833 a month and KSh 60,000 interest โ like paying about 26.58% on a reducing basis.
Does this include loan fees?
No. Banks and SACCOs may add processing fees, insurance, excise duty on fees and other charges. Ask your lender for the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) and total cost of credit.
How can I lower my loan cost?
Compare reducing-balance offers, choose the shortest period you can afford, make extra repayments if allowed, and avoid rolling over digital loans.
