TSC Payslip Download: The 4 Steps Teachers Get Wrong

Teachers log into the wrong site, misread the security question, click the wrong menu button, and save their payslips as the wrong file type. Here's what actually works on the T-Pay portal.

TSC Payslip Download: The 4 Steps Teachers Get Wrong

Every month, thousands of Kenya's public school teachers fumble through the government services experts portal looking for their payslips, spend time on pages that look official but aren't, and leave without a PDF. The portal works fine. Teachers just get four steps backwards.

The TSC payslip download happens on one site only: the official TSC TPay portal is tpay.tsc.go.ke. Not tsc.go.ke. Not the old payslip.tsc.go.ke address. Not the link in an old forum post. Typing tpay.tsc.go.ke yourself into the address bar matters—do not reach a payroll portal through a link in a WhatsApp forward, an SMS, or a search ad, and treat any page asking for your T-Pay password that is not on tsc.go.ke as hostile.

Step 1: Teachers Log Into the Wrong Portal

The Teachers Service Commission runs two different systems. Your TSC payslip lives on a separate portal from the one you registered on — T-Pay, not TSC Online Services. Most teachers first heard about TSC Online Services when they got their job. That site is for transfers, leave forms and HR requests. Payslips are not there.

Go to tpay.tsc.go.ke in your browser. Bookmark it. Use it every month. That's the only place.

Step 2: Teachers Blank on the Security Question

The T-Pay sign-in page asks for a username, a password and the answer to a small arithmetic sum, which is there to stop automated login attempts. Most teachers carry their TSC number and password. The math question catches them cold. It is not a trick—just addition or subtraction. An example: 15 + 8 = 23. Type the answer in the box marked "Security Stamp" and move on.

If you forget your password, the reset is on the portal itself and the Commission is the only body that can help. The reset link is on the T-Pay login page.

Step 3: Teachers Click the Wrong Menu Button

Log in to the T-PAY portal at tpay.tsc.go.ke, then click View Latest Payslip on the left-hand menu. Teachers often look for a "Download" or "Payslips" button instead and end up in the P9 tax form section or the transactions menu. The Quick Access panel on the dashboard has a clear "View Latest Payslip" option. Click that one.

If you need an older payslip, open the menu (three horizontal lines), select View Payslips, then choose a year and month.

Step 4: Teachers Save It as the Wrong File Type

Once your payslip appears on screen, many teachers try to save it using their phone's screenshot tool or the browser's save button. That gives you a messy image file or an HTML file, not a PDF. Here's what works: Click View Latest Payslip to open this month's payslip, then use Print and choose Save as PDF to download it. On a computer, press Ctrl+P. On a phone, use the three-dot menu and select "Print," then "Save as PDF."

A PDF file opens in any email or document reader. Banks and landlords recognize it. Screenshots and HTML files do not.

Many teachers also download their P9 tax form from T-Pay for income tax purposes. Log in to tpay.tsc.go.ke with your TSC number and password. Open the P9(s) section in the menu. Select the tax year, then click Print to view and save the P9 as a PDF. Same rule applies: use the Print menu to save as PDF, not the browser's download button.

If your payslip shows an error—a wrong deduction, a missing allowance, or data that does not match your records—email the TSC payslips team. TSC's official online payslip FAQ gives payslips@tsc.go.ke for assistance with registration problems and asks users experiencing invalid fields to provide their full names, TSC Number and the specific error message. Do not guess or assume the system is right. Tell them what is wrong. The TSC fixes payroll errors regularly when teachers report them. If your account shows an "Invalid TSC number" error and you're certain you're typing it correctly, visit your county TSC ICT office—they can reset your account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I access my T-Pay payslip on my phone?

Yes. You can access your TSC payslip online from any device with an internet connection. Open your browser, go to tpay.tsc.go.ke, log in, and use the same steps. On mobile, the Print menu saves as PDF just like on a computer.

How many months of payslips can I download?

The portal allows viewing of the four most recent payslips, with older ones available through the "View Payslips" section in the main menu. If you need payslips older than four months, use the View Payslips menu and filter by year and month.

What if my password is not working?

Use the "Forgot Your Password" link on the tpay.tsc.go.ke login page. You'll receive a reset link by email. If that doesn't work, visit the TSC ICT office in your county. Do not send your password to anyone or try to reset it through another website.

Is my payslip information safe on T-Pay?

The portal is secure. Do not access T-Pay through links in WhatsApp or SMS messages, and never enter your password on any site except tpay.tsc.go.ke itself. If something looks odd, close the browser and type the address in manually.
